The certification explained
A detailed overview of the Premium Water Certified standard.

Premium Water Certified is based on clearly defined requirements and principles. This page provides a complete explanation of how the certification is structured, what it represents and how it is applied within hospitality and wellness properties.

The sections below describe the foundation of the standard, the certification levels and the processes through which properties are reviewed and formally recognised.
The invisible layer of every guest experience
Why water influences comfort, trust and memory more than most properties realise.

Every property that welcomes guests pays attention to how people feel on arrival. Atmosphere, cleanliness, design and service all contribute to that first impression. Guests intuitively sense when care has been taken.

Water is part of that experience everywhere, yet it has rarely been considered in the same way. It is used throughout the day, touches the body repeatedly and plays a quiet but meaningful role in comfort. When water feels right, it goes unnoticed. When it does not, it subtly affects how a stay is experienced and remembered.

For a long time, water only needed to meet basic requirements.
Today, that assumption is changing.
Why guests are becoming more aware of water
And why meeting regulations is no longer enough.

Guests today are becoming more aware, not in an extreme or obsessive way, but consciously. They pay closer attention to what they drink, what touches their skin and what they are exposed to day after day. These considerations are increasingly part of how comfort, trust and wellbeing are judged.

In some regions, guests are advised not to drink tap water at all and rely on bottled water instead. In other regions, tap water is officially safe, yet still raises questions because of taste, chlorine or inconsistency. Across markets, the result is often the same. Bottled water becomes the workaround.

At the same time, bottled water itself is no longer seen as a clean solution. Plastic waste, microplastics and long-term exposure have become part of the general awareness of modern travellers, gym members and wellness guests alike.

Even in countries where drinking water is treated to a high standard, water still travels through extensive distribution systems before it reaches the tap. It may pass through ageing pipes containing rust or metals, and can carry traces of substances such as medication residues or hormone-disrupting compounds. All of this can exist within official limits, while still influencing how water tastes, smells and feels.

The water may meet regulations, but regulation is no longer the benchmark guests intuitively trust.
When guests start thinking about water instead of trusting it, something essential in the experience quietly shifts.

A clear standard for water
What Premium Water Certified defines.

Premium Water Certified defines what high-quality water should mean for properties that care about how guests feel. It sets a clear reference for water that supports comfort, trust and consistency, across all types of locations. Water that does not require alternatives, explanations or workarounds, but simply feels right, from the tap to the shower. The standard is defined independently and is not a governmental or regulatory authority.

In regions where tap water is normally avoided, this immediately sets a location apart. What guests often accept as a limitation elsewhere becomes a clear point of distinction. Being able to drink directly from the tap changes how a place is experienced. It creates confidence, trust and a sense of care that guests notice and remember.

In regions where tap water is already considered good, raising the standard still makes a meaningful difference. Water tastes cleaner, showers feel softer and trust increases. Guests experience a higher level of care and know where it comes from.

Premium Water Certified recognises properties that choose to treat water as an essential part of the guest experience, not just as a technical system behind the scenes.
Because a strong guest experience is built on more than what guests see.
It is built on what they interact with every day.
Including the water.
What Premium Water Certified is
A certification for verified water quality.

Premium Water Certified is a certification for properties that provide their guests with verified high-quality drinking and shower water through approved water systems.

A property becomes eligible for certification once the required water equipment is installed and meets the Premium Water Certified guidelines. After verification, the property can apply for an official Premium Water Certified online certificate and a personalised badge.

The certificate and badge make it possible to clearly show that water quality has been addressed at the source. They can be displayed on booking platforms such as Booking.com and Airbnb, on the property’s website and social channels, and on location alongside the installed water systems.

Visibility is a core part of the certification. The water equipment is intentionally installed in a noticeable way, making it clear to guests that a deliberate choice has been made to invest in water quality. Certification confirms this choice and makes it recognisable before arrival and throughout the stay.

Premium Water Certified is used by a wide range of guest-focused properties, including hotels, villas, hostels, gyms and wellness spaces. It provides a clear and consistent way to show that water quality is part of the overall guest experience.
What certification represents
Making water quality visible, credible and understood.

Water quality is experienced every day, but without certification it often remains invisible. Even when a property has invested in better systems, guests usually have no clear reference to recognise it. Certification changes that reality.

The certificate creates a clear signal that water quality has been addressed, verified and maintained according to a defined standard. This signal is visible where decisions are made, on booking platforms and property websites, and reinforced on location through the presence of the installed systems.

For guests, certification removes uncertainty. It replaces assumptions with clarity and provides confidence before arrival and throughout the stay. Guests do not need explanations. The standard is visible and easy to understand.

For the property, certification provides a consistent and credible way to communicate care and quality without adding complexity. Water quality becomes a recognised part of the experience, not an unnoticed background detail.

Premium Water Certified ensures that water quality is not only improved, but also clearly seen, understood and trusted.
The certification does not make medical or health claims and focuses on comfort, consistency and guest trust.
Certification levels
A clear structure for verified water quality.

Premium Water Certified recognises multiple certification levels, based on the water systems installed within a property. Each level reflects a defined scope of water quality verification.

Drinking Water Certified
Certified drinking water quality

Awarded to properties equipped with the K8 Ionised Drinking Water System. This certification confirms that guests have access to high-quality drinking water directly from the tap. The water is filtered and ionised, providing a consistent and reliable upgrade from standard tap water and reducing the need for bottled alternatives.
Spa Shower Certified
Certified shower water quality

Awarded to properties equipped with the Anespa DX Shower System. This certification confirms that shower water is filtered and mineral-enriched, resulting in a noticeably softer and cleaner shower experience that guests associate with comfort and care.
Gold Certified
Certified drinking water quality

Awarded to properties equipped with both the K8 and the Anespa DX systems. Gold Certified represents the highest certification level within Premium Water Certified. It confirms a complete approach to water quality, covering both drinking and shower water, and sets a clear benchmark for properties that fully integrate water into the guest experience.
Backed by premium technology
Built on proven Japanese water systems.

Premium Water Certified is backed by water technology developed and manufactured in Japan by Enagic,
a global leader in advanced water systems for more than fifty years. The certification framework and standard are defined independently, while the systems provide the approved technological foundation.

Enagic systems are used worldwide in over 400,000 homes, hotels, gyms, clinics and wellness environments, across more than 180 countries. They are trusted for their consistent performance, long service life and suitability for daily use in both private and professional settings.

All systems are designed and produced in Japan and comply with internationally recognised standards for quality, safety and manufacturing. They are built for permanent installation and become a stable part of a property’s water infrastructure, rather than a short-term or surface-level solution.

Within Premium Water Certified, two systems form the technical foundation of certification:
-
The K8 Ionised Drinking Water System, a comprehensive water system that goes beyond conventional filtration
-
The Anespa DX Shower System, improving shower water quality through filtration and mineral enrichment
Both systems are intentionally visible on location. Their presence reinforces the certification and makes it clear that water quality has been addressed at the source, not added as an afterthought.

For most guests, the technology itself remains in the background. What matters is the experience it supports. For those who wish to understand the systems in more detail, additional information and demonstrations are available.

Why certification matters
When guest trust influences bookings, pricing and return rates

When guests choose between similar properties, the decision is rarely based on one single feature. It is based on trust. On how complete, considered and reliable a place feels before arrival. Certification plays a direct role in that perception.

A visible Premium Water Certified badge signals that a property has addressed water quality in a clear and verifiable way. This reduces uncertainty around bottled water, taste and shower comfort, and replaces it with confidence. Guests feel reassured before they book, not after they arrive.

That reassurance matters. It supports a guest’s willingness to choose one property over another, to commit without hesitation and to align expectations with the experience delivered on site. For many properties, this translates into stronger booking confidence, clearer positioning and less pressure to compete purely on price.

For locations that offer comparable design, amenities and service, certification becomes a point of distinction that does not rely on discounts or explanation. It communicates care and quality in a way guests immediately understand.

Over time, this consistency influences how a property is reviewed, remembered and returned to. Not because of a single feature, but because the overall experience feels complete and considered. Premium Water Certified supports this by making water quality visible, credible and part of the value guests recognise when choosing where to stay.

Visible before arrival
Guests compare listings in seconds. A visible Premium Water Certified badge signals quality and care before they even read the description.

Investment & long-term value
A clear structure behind the standard.

Premium Water Certified is built around two clearly defined components: the installation of professional water systems and the certification that verifies and communicates that standard. Understanding this structure provides clarity before reviewing pricing and scope.

Certification
Certification confirms that a property meets the Premium Water Certified standard after verification. It includes an official online certificate and a personalised badge that can be used across booking platforms, websites and other digital channels.

Certification is subject to a one-time certification fee, determined based on the scale, visibility and application of the standard within the property. A boutique villa and a five-star resort may both qualify, but the scope and value differ accordingly.
To maintain the integrity of the standard, an annual verification fee applies to confirm continued compliance with Premium Water Certified requirements. Certification remains valid as long as installed systems meet the defined criteria. A physical on-site certificate is currently in development.

Water systems
The foundation of certification is the installation of professional medical-grade water systems. These systems are designed for long-term installation and daily use, becoming an integral part of a property’s water infrastructure.

Pricing for the systems is region-specific and based on official Enagic product rates. These rates include official invoicing, full manufacturer warranty, direct product registration with Enagic® and access to ongoing customer support. Certification also includes a personalised Premium Water Certified badge and ready-to-use digital visuals for use across listings and online channels.

Like any professional water infrastructure, the systems require routine maintenance and periodic professional servicing to ensure consistent long-term performance. Depending on usage and local water conditions, this may include scheduled deep cleaning, which can involve the system being temporarily sent for service. This process is predictable, infrequent, and part of maintaining the standard over many years of daily use. This is a one-time investment in infrastructure, not a recurring service model.

Together, the systems and certification support clearer positioning, stronger guest confidence and a property experience that feels intentional rather than improvised.
